Italy

Our kids looked for the main cultural elements of our city. They focused on the celebrities and the elements that make Latina known in the rest of Italy and abroad. Latina is a young city with a recent past, so our kids count more on current icons to find a common sharaeble identity.

Benito Mussolini was a politician, journalist and dictator. He founded the fascist party. He was born in Forlì on the 29th of july 1883. He was a Prime Minister in the Italian Government. In 1932 he founded Littoria (the first name of Latina). He died on the 28th of april 1945.

On the 30th of june 1932 Latina was inaugurated and at the beginning named Littoria. The town was populated by immigrants from the regions of Veneto, Friuli and Emilia. During 1944 the town was seriously damaged by the bombing of the II World War. In 1946 its name changed into Latina and this marked the departure from the fascist dictatorship. During 60s and 70s the city experienced a remarkable economic growth and population increase becoming a industrialized city.

Latina Football Team - Our Footbal team is popular in Italy because two years ago it got the promotion to "Serie B" (Championship). They won the final match versus the team of Pisa (score 3-1). This was an important event for our city. They lost the final match to get promoted to "Serie A" (Premium Football League). Then the team began to play badly, but now they are improving a lot.
